INTER HOUSE EVENT WORDSWORTH
Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.
As the pandemic continues, staying resilient and optimistic can be a challenge, whether you are sheltering at home or working. That’s why it’s more important than ever to have tools that can help you reconnect with yourself and your inner wisdom.
And to equip the students with the opportunity to blend with knowledge, we, at K.R. Mangalam World School Gurugram, had organized ‘Wordsworth’- an Inter House Competition for class IX through the virtual platform. The competition was conducted on Saturday, May 30, 2020.
Students of grade IX had to go through various auditions, ensuring 100% participation, and the House teachers selected one representative from their respective houses who qualified for the finals. The students were to make anagrams using the subject of the anagram. They were supposed to make maximum number of meaningful words or abbreviations and acronyms in less than 60 seconds.
The Finals were conducted on Microsoft Teams, live which was witnessed by Respected Principal Ma’am- Ms. Sunita Nagpal, Senior School Coordinator Ms Ritu Jain, teachers and students. The event was judged by Middle School Coordinator, Ms Yachna Arora and Head of the English Department, Ms Deepika Gupta.
The participants were competent as they put forward their best efforts performing live all the rounds which tested their knowledge with the help of Spell Check, Synonyms and making anagrams. Students had left no stone unturned to give their best despite the mind-boggling words and strenuous pressure that they faced throughout the competition.
Towards the end, Principal Ma’am shared her words of motivation and declared the results. The winner was Preet Singh Smochiwal of Topaz House and the 1st Runner-Up was Divisha Gupta of Emerald House. All participants proved this famous quote by Wordsworth, “Wisdom is oft-times nearer when we stoop, Than when we soar.”
Overall, students gained this new experience of enhancing their Vocabulary Skills through this virtual medium of teaching.
